In Reactor 4, the heart of the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster, photographer Ron B Wilson steps back in time to 1:23 am April 26th, 1986. In the control room the AZ-5 button sits untouched over thirty years after it was pressed triggering the disastrous explosion.
PWB’s next film, Children of Chernobyl, explores the nuclear plant today and introduces the citizens who call the Chernobyl region home. These communities are still feeling negative effects over thirty years after the disaster. Children of Chernobyl asks, how do we learn from this disaster in order to move forward with nuclear power the right way?
Chernobyl is an event that many people have put in their past. But for those that live there today, it’s their home. Clean Futures Fund is trying to help by distributing medical grants to people living and working in the Exclusion Zone, working with the community to improve their hospital and rehab centre, and working with the power plant to determine how best to move forward.
