Movie sequence: On the night of the assassination plot, Prime Minister Mathabar Singh is informed that Junior Queen Rajya Lakshmi is extremely sick and is informed to pay an immediate visit to her. Mathabar's aide, Kesharman Gubhaju, tries to stop Mathabar Singh indicating it could be an assassination plot. Mathabar Singh storms to pay a visit to the Junior Queen and while he was climbing the stairs, he's shot dead from behind the curtains by his own nephew Kaji Jang Bahadur Kunwar in disguise. This marks one of the most disgusting political assassination event in the history of Nepal where a nephew murders his own maternal uncle for the personal political advantage.
Facts: An assassination plot was made by Junior Queen Rajya Lakshmi to eliminate Mukhtiyar Prime Minister and C-in-C Mathabar Singh from the political scene. The immediate reason was that Mathabar Singh didn't substantiate Junior Queen's claim to put forward her son Prince Ranendra Bikram Shah as successor to royal throne before the eldest male heir apparent then Prince Surendra Bikram Shah (later King Surendra of Nepal). Junior Queen had Kaji Jung Bahadur and his uncle-in-law Kaji Kulman Singh Basnyat involved in the plot. Jung Bahadur had a great dispute/dissatisfaction with his maternal uncle Mathabar Singh when the latter refused to appeal amnesty for Jung Bahadur's cousin Devi Bahadur Kunwar; Devi Bahadur being executed after that. The person who went to summon the Prime Minister was Kaji Kulman Singh Basnyat (Jung Bahadur's uncle-in-law). After this murder, it was popularized that King Rajendra of Nepal who himself was a puppet and politically inactive ruler claimed to have killed the Prime Minister on the false charges of high treason. In this way, this political assassination removed an outstanding personality from the political scene which British Resident Sir Henry Lawrence describes as loss of the right arm of Nepal.... "Nepal has indeed lost her right arm and blind will be the Minister who takes his [Mathabar's] place." This event set up a strong political instability in the Nepalese court and ultimately led to the rise of the autocratic Rana dynasty.
