Service notes for St James's 06:09:2020:
R&S 246 The day of resurrection! The Old Testament lesson is Exodus 12: 1-14. Our readings today are linked by a theme of the togetherness of a worshipping community. For Jewish communities this is a pivotal passage - the institution of the feast of Passover, one of the defining acts of Jews even today. The lamb or young goat is sacrificed and roasted then eaten in haste by people who are dressed for travelling. The flight from Egypt is about to begin and the people must be ready to leave at a moment's notice. This is an integral part of the victory of God's people over the tyranny of slavery, helped by God. We therefore sing an Easter hymn that sees Christ as the passover lamb that brought God's people victory over the tyranny of sin.
