'It went on far too long': Boston to pay $2.6M in 2005 police drug hair test lawsuit
Boston has to pay $2.6 million dollars in a settlement reached in a lawsuit centered on the hair test they employed for years on officers and cadets. The hair test was supposed to test for drugs, but according to the lawsuit, it disproportionately turned out false positive for Black officers. Attorney for the plaintiffs, Oren Sellstrom, litigation director for Lawyers for Civil Rights and Jeffrey Lopes, president of the Massachusetts Association of Minority Law Enforcement Officers joined Crystal Haynes to discuss.
MA bill pushes to shield sex workers from prosecution, hold buyers accountable
A group of lawmakers and advocates are rallying behind a bill that would decriminalize sex work in Massachusetts. The bill would protect sex workers and connect them to resources to help them leave the sex trade, but would still enable law enforcement to prosecute buyers. Two proponent of the bill, Audra Doody, co-executive director of Safe Exit Initiative, and Audrey Morrissey, co-executive director of the non-profit My Life My Choice joined Crystal to discuss, along with GBH’s Deputy Investigative Editor Jenifer McKim.
