Tuesday 8th September saw the final departure of Virgin Atlantic B747-400, G-VROS (Forever Young), as it departed Manchester for the final time, bound for London Heathrow for end of lease checks before heading over to the US for its new live with Atlas Air.
Virgin844P departed Manchester around 12:20 local time, doing the usual routing via the Runway Visitor Park then backtracking 23R before departing with a lovely steep climb and wing wave! The captain also gave quite an emotional farewell message on ATC making this 747 departure even more poignant.
A quick 30 min hop down to Heathrow, where VROS established for runway 27L. Having two members of MT Aviation meant we were able to capture both the departure from Manchester and arrival in Heathrow making for a unique two perspective video!
It is unclear how long the G-VROS and G-VROM will stay at Heathrow for but the departure on Tuesday now leaves just one 747 at Manchester, G-VXLG! There is currently no departure date for this aircraft yet but is rumoured to be sometime in October!
