New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said new data points to a "worrisome" rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the city.
De Blasio said the daily measure of cases in the city doubled since yesterday to 2.70% and the seven-day moving average took a "meaningful jump" to 1.92%.
"That alone is not a number that would overwhelm us, but the growth is what worries me."
The mayor said the state is looking at the same data and would ultimately make any decision on further lockdowns, but stressed the importance of doubling down on precautions against the virus.
"It's really about keeping us safe and not letting a second wave in that would lead to huge restrictions on all of us."
