The United Nations human right office on Friday weighed in on the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man shot multiple times in the back by officers in Kenosha, Wisc., calling the shooting “excessive.”
Video of Blake being shot set off protests, further fueling the unrest over police brutality and racial injustice.
Rupert Colville, spokesperson for the U.N. Commissioner for Human Rights did not appear to comply with international standards.
“It also seems highly possible that the force used against Blake could be discriminatory in nature,” he added.
Colville also commented on the shootings of three men as demonstrators protested the Blake shooting, saying it was an example of “insufficient and lax” gun control measures in the U.S.
