On Boxing Day 2012, a massive landslide occured between Colwell Bay and Totland Bay near to Fort Warden.
The original sea wall was pushed 'up to 20m seaward' according to the official council report. The movement then caused 'material to be subsequently eroded behind and beneath the wall, leading to further collapse and exacerbating the problem.'
Various solutions were discussed, before on 13th September 2015, the coastal footpath was re-opened.
As you'll see from the video, the solution was a 'make do and mend' path which made a feature of the devastating damage to the sea wall.
We returned in June 2022 to see how the landslide was looking, nearly 10 years after the event.
