[ Ссылка ] - Lawmaker Aims to Smoke Out Synthetic Pot - Buying "Spice" would be a crime if Senator Sue Wilson Beffort gets her way. Synthetic marijuana products, which go by names like Spice and K2, could contain chemicals such as formaldehyde or acetone, and could cause serious health problems, said Sen. Beffort, a Sandia Park Republican. She's introduced a bill that would make it a crime to possess or sell synthetic pot.
But for right now it's legal to buy such drugs in New Mexico. They're often labeled "herbal incense," and are sold openly at smoke shops and convenience stores—and on the Internet.
"We've been seeing this for a long time," one law enforcement official told me at the Roundhouse today.
But Senator Beffort is concerned that parents are unfamiliar with the drugs and don't know what to look out for.
"I wonder how many families have even heard of synthetic marijuana," Beffort said.
She also said she's concerned that kids think that the drug is legal it must be safe—although she's heard of users suffering from seizures, strokes and death.
Beffort said although the Federal Drug Administration is investigating such drugs, she doesn't want to wait for them to make a determination. She wants to ban the drugs now, and if her bill is passed and signed it will go into effect immediately.
