Landa was a healthy, active indoor soccer enthusiast when she noticed a strange symptom—a small vertical crease near her earlobe. Although she had no signs of heart disease, questioning this small symptom led to a diagnosis of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) disorder. CHI Franciscan cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Christopher King performed surgery on Landa's heart at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. Within a month, she was back to walking and hiking, and working full time.
