Sun Wukong’s most unlikely ally in Black Myth: Wukong is totally unexpected and might catch you off guard, **HEAVY SPOILER WARNING** Believe it or not it’s Erlang Shen, the powerful god who defeats Sun Wukong in the beginning of the game. Even after “killing” him, Erlang Shen ends up helping Wukong with his true goal.
"After Wukong’s death, Erlang does more than just defeat him—he ensures Wukong’s essence lives on. Erlang scatters Wukong’s Senses across the game’s bosses, while safeguarding the essence of Wukong’s Mind in his own third eye. This sets up the rise of a new successor who will inherit Wukong’s powers and senses, but without the burden of the dreaded Golden Headband, which is what plagued Sun Wukong's choice of freedom.
So why would Erlang do this? Erlang Shen, a figure of justice, might have sympathized with Wukong’s rebellion. Wukong wasn’t an evil force, just someone who wanted his true freedom from the heavens, as he was promised but never granted after the conclusion of "Journey to West". Maybe Erlang Shen saw him as a worthy warrior, far from the rebellious monkey that he fought long ago. By preserving Wukong’s essence and ensuring a successor, Erlang may have been ensuring that Wukong’s legacy—and his freedom—would live on."
