In this video, Duncan travels Back to Baja to the town of Puerto San Carlos located adjacent to Magdalena Bay to search for Gray Whales. Welcome to Magdalena Bay is one of the most important habitats for gray whales in the world.
Gray whales travel more than 10,000 miles each year, from their feeding grounds in the Bering and Chukchi seas to their breeding and calving grounds here in Baja California Sur. Magdalena Bay is one of the few places where these gentle giants feel safe and protected enough to mate and give birth to their young.
Each winter, between December and April, thousands of gray whales make their way to the warm, shallow waters of Magdalena Bay to mate and give birth to their young.
Magdalena Bay is also important for the local communities that rely on the whale-watching tourism industry. By protecting these gentle giants, we're not only helping to preserve a vital ecosystem but also supporting the livelihoods of the people who call this place home.
But the gray whales of Magdalena Bay face many threats, including habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. That's why it's important that we do everything we can to protect this precious ecosystem and ensure that these amazing creatures continue to thrive for generations to come.
