The Wits Business School Honours Adrian Gore at the 31st MANEX awards
Discovery CEO Adrian Gore was awarded the prestigious Management Excellence Award at a Gala Dinner hosted by Wits Business School at Summer Place in Sandton on Thursday.
Now in its 31st year, the MANEX Awards have a proud tradition of celebrating the best in business and recognising some of our countries most dynamic captains of industry from various sectors of business and commerce.
Gore joins an impressive group of past winners that includes corporate leaders like Maria Ramos, Nonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita, Raymond Ackerman, Pravin Gordhan, Dr Chris Stals and Trevor Manuel among others.
"I'm a proud 'Witsie' and I learned everything I know at the University and the Business School. It is therefore an honour and a pleasure to receive this award and I feel a deep sense of gratitude. Wits is an inspiring place and we need to make sure that it's brilliant and excellent and that it turns out leaders that build our country. I'm absolutely convinced that our country's ability is way beyond what we believe, and that gap we need to close," said Gore
"The University has an amazing role to play in changing our society and that's the essence of a Business School and people like myself and those who will come after me to make sure that we change our society for the better," added Gore
Gore will add the MANEX award to his astonishing list of accolades. In 1998, Adrian was recognised as South Africa's Best Entrepreneur by Ernst & Young, and in 2004 was chosen as South Africa's leading CEO in the annual MoneyWeb CEO's CEO of the Year Awards. In 2008 he received the Investec Award for Considerable Contribution in a Career/Profession, and in 2010, was named as the Sunday Times Business Leader of the Year.
"Our School is a reflection of what these awards are all about- we pride ourselves in sculpting global leaders in South Africa. Adrian Gore a great example of this and we wish him all the best in the various roles he is still to play in growing business in South Africa," said Acting Head of School Dr Adam Gordon.
The MANEX Awards also celebrated the best lectures and students of the year. Amongst them is WBS Executive-in-Residence Euvin Naidoo who received the best academic part-time lecture, best full-time academic lecturer went to Professor Rasoava Rijamampianina, and top researcher of the year Professor Urban Boris.
