At various tradeshows this is one of the most asked questions when I have amphibians on the table. This question typically poses when I start asking questions about their current standard of care prior to selling this amphibian. What is Chytrid, how does it does it affect my animal and how does it spread? What precautions, as a keeper should I be taking with my amphibians to ensure they are healthy and incapable of spreading different diseases?
In this video the Bio Dude discuss the Chytrid Fungus, how to test for it at home and what steps for quarantine should be taken with new amphibians. I discuss how bacteria and fungus can spread and give my opinion on which questions should be asked for new/advanced keepers purchasing wild caught or "flipped" amphibians. I did not place the q-tip in the actual tube as I wanted to save that tube for future testing use. If you are unsure how to do so please ask, we would be happy to help as that was the only thing not shown in the video.
This video is not intended to generalize, step on any toes, or to cause issues; but to educate the public and create awareness of these issues that ignorance is perpetuating in our hobby. Thank you everyone for your support!n
