The naturalist D. Mariano de la Paz Graells (1809 - 1898) contributed with his publications to the development of fish farming. He received help in times of Queen Elizabeth II, of her husband Don Francisco de Asis, who granted him the necessary land of the Royal Heritage in the park of El Escorial, Country House and gardens of Aranjuez. Already in 1864 Graells published the Practical Handbook of Fish Farming, and this Ichthyonogenic Laboratory was installed in 1866 (Laboratory Ictiogenic of the Farm in the Real Site of San Ildefonso, Segovia).
