Since 4 years of age, Yoshikawa received lessons from his father, a musician and marimbist. He performed numerous marimba concerts throughout Japan with his father accompanying him with the accordion. With his frequent appearances on radio and TV he became known as a marimba prodigy. Determined to become a professional marimba player after hearing Hiraoka's xylophone performance as a high schooler, Yoshikawa enrolled at Musasino Conservatoire, majoring in piano. While in school he played many gigs as studio musician. For the next 60 years he performed marimba throughout Japan with repertoires favorable to the audience including Classical, Latin, and Ragtime. He is one of the leading marimbists in Japan.
