Jeff Porter is the Beverage Director at B&B Hospitality Group and presides over the wine programs and sommeliers for restaurants such as Del Posto, La Sirena, and Casa Mono. Jeff was recently featured on an episode of Follow That Somm, where he broke down Barbaresco and Barolo with our host Carole Mac in an awesome and thorough tasting of the Nebbiolo grape. He was kind enough to taste even more wine on camera for us at Del Posto Ristorante, which currently holds four stars in The New York Times.
With a strong background and history of working with Italian wine, Jeff is the perfect guest to analyze this affordable and delicious Barbera D’Alba. In today’s Tasting Notes, Jeff gives us his rapid impressions of the 2012 Cascina Massara Burlotto, “a fast ball of Barbera,” and gives the wine a hearty recommendation. A seasoned sommelier, Jeff only needs one minute to find floral notes along with cherry, sour red fruit, and crushed rock. “It’s everything you want,” he concludes.
The Cascina Massara Burlotto is produced in Verduno Italy, “which is one of the small villages in Barolo,” per Jeff, but is made with 100% Barbera and has earned the Barbera d’Alba DOC status. With such quality, it’s surprising to see this wine priced at less than $15! If you want to explore more great food and wine experiences, visit [ Ссылка ] today.
