In this brewing video we're making a Berliner Weisse. This beer style is traditionally light bodied, low abv, mildly sour, and highly carbonated. Overall, the Berliner Weisse is a super refreshing style of beer that's great for a day drink or a hot day. The specific homebrew recipe we're using came from the book "Mashmaker" by Michael Dawson, this is an excellent book for homebrewers of any level. This recipe involves a step mash, which means gradually raising the mash temperature throughout the process. The yeast we're using is a special blend from White Labs, WLP630, that has lactobacillus in it. Lactobacillus is used in many sour beers, not just a Berliner Weisse, to help create a sour flavor. Follow along with this video to learn how to brew your own Berliner Weisse using the recipe found on our website. Check out the resources below for a tasting video, full recipe, brewing equipment, the Mashmaker book, and an article about the history of the Berliner Weisse style.
