Fold Mountains are formed when two continental plates push against each other , leading to the formation of large folds on the earth’s surface.
The U shaped part of the fold is called the syncline while the n shaped part is the anticline.
These mountains are the most common type of mountains in the world and also have the longest ranges.
Some of these mountains are the Himalayas, Andes, Alps, Appalachian, Scottish Highlands and Atlas.
Mt. Everest is tallest Mt. in the world. It is part of the Himalayas which are found in Asia on the borders of China, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and Pakistan.
The Andes are the world’s longest mountain range. They are found in South America on the coast of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina
The Alps stretch across Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Monaco, and France in Europe.
The Appalachians are in North America’s east coast of Canada and USA
The Scottish Highlands are in Europe
While the Atlas Mountains are in Morocco, Africa.
However, The Himalayas, Andes and alps are active fold mountains since their continental plates are still pushing against each other.
