It is generally asserted that politics is always a game of interest and nothing more. The recent defection by some members of the House of Representatives on the platform of the Labour Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC is lending credence to that assertion. Reacting to the development, the Labour Party said it has filed actions in court to compel the National Assembly leadership to declare the seats of its defected lawmakers vacant. According to the party, the suit also wants the salary, emolument or privileges received by the defectors from the date of their defection, to be returned to the Labour Party. The House of Representatives member representing Jos South/Jos East Constituency, Akangbe Illiya recently announced his defection to the APC, bringing the number of defected lawmakers on the party's platform to five.
