-Pet battle changes-
These changes, just like the ones done at the end of MoP and WoD, are targeted at pvp pet battles. The 3 best pets in the game (for pvp) are the Wicked soul, Terroclaw hatchling, and the Bone Serpent.
Giving Haunt an actual downside instead of it being a free swap and blanket immunity to aoe damage is a long overdue change. And nerfs the Wicked soul directly, as well as the other haunt pets who are all T-1 in their own right for just being able to use that OP ability.
Swapping Call Darkness and Lift-off for Bone serpents takes away the Darkness/Strike Combo. Which is what made the bone serpent so powerful in addition to its ability to break decoys in 1 turn with its bone barrage.
Making Dodge and Nature’s Ward share the same tier takes away what made the terroclaw so powerful, its ability to put up a strong HoT AND Dodge for 2 turns with its Flying racial. Basically giving it 2 free turns to heal up while taking no damage, and being able to attack with 1 of those turns as well.
The crow nerfs were obviously done to tone down the other darkness/Strike combo pets, but its weird to see them only target the crows. There are the warden owls and the WoD collectors edition pets who also have that combo who seems to be un-touched. And those pets are actually stronger than the crows.
The Cyclone nerf is obviously there to tone down the Clone Dance teams. For those of you who dont know, Cyclone is an ability that you just throw out and for 5 turns, it has a low chance, like a 35% chance to do damage to each of your opponents pets. The backline and frontline pets. So its basically a team wide dot that just has a low chance to sometimes do its damage. BUT, theres also an ability called Ran Dance, which when used gives your team a 50% increased chance to crit and hit for 2 turns. This 50% hit increase gets added to the already out Cyclone, giving it an 85% chance to hit instead of 35%, and the ability was balanced around the notion that it had a super low chance to hit. So with its now higher hit chance, it just does a ton of AOE damage for the 3 turns it has the rain dance buff. And thats why they nerfed its damage, because that Clone dance aoe is no joke. Especially since rain dance ALSO gives a 50% crit buff as well, so those ticks were also critting a bunch as well.
Although Clone Dance has been a thing since MoP, and Its always been powerful. I'm just wondering why it was nerfed now all of a sudden. It did have the downside of there being no pet in game with both a Cyclone and Rain Dance ability, so you had to lose a turn swapping out to use it on another pet. But the combo was so good it was usually always worth it.
