The 1000 years old barrage loctaed at Thonnur Kere (140KM from bangalore, 22KM from Srirangapatna) is yet to be affected by commercialization or uncontrollable crowds. On the right edge of the lake there is a beach like place which is an ideal place to picnic. The water, though safe near the shore, is said to be dangerous and many people have drowned here. But you can get under the falls created by the water cascading down the lake. There is not a single instance of the lake drying up in the history of lakes's existence. The rocky hills around Thonnuru Kere adds to the beauty of the place. A huge rock is shaped exactly like a turtle and appears like it is climbing the slope to reach the summit. The locals call it the "Turtle Rock". The fine mixture of elements of nature -the wind, water and rock - together makes "Thonnuru Kere" a Kere not to be missed..!!
