Toadstool and mushroom are merely unscientific labels to define different varieties of fungus. Yes, the mushroom that we eat is actually a fungus!
There is a popular consensus that while mushrooms are white-capped species that grow in fields and are safe and edible, toadstools are inedible and should not be consumed. In fact, they are poisonous species of fungi. Unfortunately, they are deceptively similar to to mushrooms in appearance. Consuming toadstool can lead to gastrointestinal infections and psychosomatic issues, such as confusion or hallucination. Eating toadstool can even prove fatal.
