Biofuelwatch campaign assistant Dorian Wainwright breaks down some of the most common myths about bio-energy with carbon capture and storage (aka BECCS), giving particular attention to the claims and ambitions of British biomass-burning power plant Drax.
Burning biomass for power makes climate change worse, harms biodiversity, pollutes the air we breathe, harms communities and wastes money on a false solution to climate change, and BECCS makes all of that much, much worse.
We mustn't make the same mistake we made when it came to CCS from coal burning, and invest billions in resources over many years chasing a false climate solution - particularly when that time and money can be better invested into genuine solutions which are available right now.
