This is one of my very favourite Irish rebel songs.
Written by Canon Charles O’Neill from Portglenone, County Antrim (1887–1963) It tells the story of the Easter Rising in Dublin, 1916.
This song has been covered by just about every Irish folk & ballad singer that has ever existed (and some not so Irish).
It's simply a wonderful song.
