(11 Dec 2013) Nelson Mandela's body was taken in a procession from a military hospital on the outskirts of Pretoria to lie in state at the Union Buildings in South Africa's capital on Wednesday.
The convoy was met by dancing local residents, who threw flowers at the passing hearse.
Mandela's body will rest in state on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, once the seat of white power.
It will held be overnight at 1 Military Hospital, on Pretoria's outskirts, a government spokesman said.
The government has called on residents to line the streets to serve as an honour guard as Mandela's body passes twice each day.
Official memorial services will be held in all of South Africa's provinces and regions over the next week.
Mandela is to be buried in his rural childhood village of Qunu on December 15, after a state funeral.
The former South African president and anti-apartheid leader died last Thursday aged 95.
