Ever since my Mesa Boogie amp breathed its last breath a few years ago, I've been traveling the direct path. I had been loyal to my Aguilar DB750 for many years, reveling in its delightful tones. So, when I contemplated a return to the warmth and depth of an amplifier sound, I decided to take a leap with one of Aguilar's preamp pedals.
The AG Preamp, Aguilar's latest creation, begged me to give it a try. As it turns out, it's precisely what I was searching for. It emanates a breathtaking sound when used live (when plugging an xlr directly from the pedal), and it flawlessly fulfills its role when it comes to recording. It tames some sounds and makes the whole sound a bit more punchy, adds gain for more grind and gives me loads of EQ options. For the purpose of this video I left everything close to twelve o'clock. This pedal is a true gem.
