This version of the movie hasn't been seen since we originally screened it to it's first audience, The Bouncing Souls and friends, at Galapagos in Brooklyn June of 2006 - followed by test screenings at the Echo Park Film Center in Los Angeles and a private screening in San Diego Spring of 2007.
Featuring music from Bear vs. Shark, Against Me!, Ted Leo, The Explosion, and more - the punk energy drives the narrative momentum differently from the final cut, which showcases Paul T. Laino's original score music, that has a more thoughtful and reflective feeling.
This cut also features the "Teenage Lobotomy" deleted montage scene which was a favorite of mine that sadly had to be removed because we honestly weren't sure if we could use a Ramones cover in the film. Check it out and compare for yourself! ~Pete

"Freaks Nerds & Romantics" is a fictional story that follows the melodic punk band con.spire and chronicles their final attempt at transcending the restrictions put on them both by themselves and their environment; whether to keep following their dreams as a band or break up and conform to the real world. Through it all, there is a makeshift family dynamic between them and the other bands and individuals in the scene.
When Lucy Merrick (Jamie Frevele) a recent college graduate, is assigned to write a feature in order to get a lucrative staff job at her magazine internship, she goes back to Long Island looking to reintegrate herself with her old high-school friends and to write an article about the punk rock sub-culture they created in a once-booming local music scene. What she finds instead are her friends struggling with the weight of their “quarter-life crises”: 20-somethings still throwing parties at their mother’s houses, bands/friendships on the verge of collapse, and nostalgia for days long-gone.
