The 2017 Summit took place on 20-21 January 2017 and was organised in partnership with Beatrix Ruf, director of the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, and her curatorial team around the theme “Size Matters! (De)Growth of the 21st Century Art Museum”. The theme of the 2017 Summit was chosen by Beatrix Ruf, drawing from her personal encounters with the current transformations of the cultural institutions she has worked for, and their corresponding increase in scale. The Summit addressed issues that every museum is asked to face, struggle with, reflect upon and address in a self-critical way.
The 2017 Summit speakers included architect Rem Koolhaas; artist Tino Sehgal; HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands; Professor Benjamin Bratton (Professor of Visual Arts at the University of California, San Diego), and philosopher Cissie Fu (Emily Carr University, Vancouver).
