Cori Broadus is the daughter of rap legend Snoop Dogg and is a talented musician in her own right. She's living proof that even if you're the daughter of a legend, you might have trouble dreaming big enough, that you can't see beyond your own ambitions to the love of a lifetime that you truly deserve.
At 23, Cori never imagined she'd be organizing a wedding. She joins our Zoom call from the automobile two weeks before Valentine's Day. Her fiance Wayne Duece is driving her back to L.A. from Palm Desert. The pair has traveled to the Coachella Valley in search of a new wedding site after their initial choice fell through.
We had discussed marriage, but Cori claims that the two of them are "married" in every sense of the word. They've been together since 2018, when they were both 25. The pair is inseparable; they operate a business together, live together, and even have two pets. Cori and Wayne are a perfect match in every way, and their lives together reflect that. Therefore, getting married seemed both unnecessary and inevitable.
"There was no need to hurry. Our age difference is little. We've got a long way to go," Cori replies. It is a deliberate decision to commit to spending all of eternity with another person. The unique quality of love is that picking each other is never boring.
When he made the proposal, I was just... Still in disbelief, Cori says. It's taken me a while to digest it. The beauty of knowing you will always be loved, cherished, and given top priority is hard to put into words.
Cori may not have fully processed the magnitude of Wayne's feelings for her, but her devotion to him remains unwavering. Cori doesn't hesitate to share her excitement about married life (note the capitalization) when questioned. As they say, "the forever shit."
At a party, Cori Broadus and her pals ran upon Wayne Duece. Except for the guy he arrived with, he didn't know anyone else there. They exchanged Snapchats after she made the initial introduction. "I was just being friendly," Cori explains. There was no intent on my part to yell at him. I was trying to be pleasant. After then, things progressed slowly. They started off as mutual friends on Snapchat and Instagram before moving on to in-person hangouts. "We really started to connect and build and create a friendship," Cori explains. We were friends first, and that's probably why things work out so well between us.
Cori was caught off guard by the solid basis. She had become accustomed to a lack of assurance, inconsistency, and distrust. The concept of security seemed alien, but the back-and-forth of control in a poisonous relationship was all too familiar. Cori says, "Even in the beginning, I was like, 'Oh, he is too good for me.'" I used to look through his phone and I never saw anything. Am I missing something here? Because I had been accustomed to always encountering criticism. Cori had to relearn her affinity to pain when it became evident that Wayne wasn't interested in mind or heart games.
When Wayne loves someone, he loves intensely. There was never a man who cared as much for her as she did.
