I named it "The Spot Room" because of all the colored spots of light moving about in there. This section is an installation by PIERRE ET GILLES, exploring 18th c. French decorative art(s) and throwing in some pop culture combined with historic references -- there's quite a naughty story about the portrait of Zahia Dehar seen in this clip. (I bought a refrigerator magnet of that.)
The lights reflect the theme of "Les Gobelins au siècle des Lumières -- Un âge d'or de la Manufacture royale." The métro stop for this historic tapestry manufacturer is GOBELINS. The last Sunday of each month, you may visit the interior exhibition halls free of charge. Three times each week at 1:00 pm, there are tours of the ateliers, and the majestic courtyards.
Tapestries are displayed, and "modèles" -- paintings to be rendered in tapestry, using the meticulous, refined methods of old. Many of the tapestries are so subtle, you might mistake them for paintings, themselves.
