Welcome to Eastbourne Parkrun, pacer day, where we will go through the steps of how to run Parkrun. If you want to know more about Parkrun or what happens on a pacer day at Parkrun, then this is the video to watch. If you are a beginner and heard about Parkrun, the whole concept can seem daunting and may prevent you from wanting to join. It did me! Relax.
If you are learning how to start running then this video is a beginner's guide for Parkrun and will take you through an actual Parkrun from start to finish and include all the important steps, the sights, the sounds, the feel of a Parkrun. The added bonus... what it is like to run with pacers.
What do you need to start a Parkrun? Go to the Parkrun website: [ Ссылка ] to register. Print off your barcode, grab your running shoes and head down to the start line. That's it. The organisers will take care of the rest.
Worried about how slow you might go? Anxious that you may have to walk part of it? Not a problem! You will never be last. There's always a tail walker to guide you home. Concerned about standing around in the crowds ready for the off? Again, not a problem. Just hang around at the back of the starting group and work you way through the runners as the crowd thins out over the next 5km.
Many Parkruns have a monthly pacer day ranging from sub-18 to sub-35 minutes. Pacers provide a (near) consistent pace and encouragement over the 5km, so all you have to do is stay with them; sometimes that is easier said than done! They are running metronomes, but friendly and encouraging. I'm a lonely runner with a goatee and wearing a purple shirt with "25" in gold letters printed on the back can make all the difference to your social running confidence!
Couch to 5k, beginners, intermediates, advanced and pro-level runners, whatever your running capabilities, whatever your 5k training needs, Parkrun can cater for you.
Please don’t forget to put your comments below on your first experience of Parkrun or on a pacer day. What advice do you have for others thinking of participating in a Parkrun? What other points of etiquette should be followed at Parkrun? Why not subscribe and join the Aspiring Runners community.
Many thanks to all those who volunteered for the interviews!
