Joan Baez sings the traditional Scottish ballad 'Henry Martin' (Child #250) from her self-titled 1960 Vanguard album. The song was first printed in the early 1600s as a very long song about the exploits of the pirate Andrew Barton. It was much shortened over time and the name of the pirate changed to Henry Martin. Fred Hellerman plays second guitar on this album - Baez' first solo recording. In the video, the darker ship represents that of the pirate while the lighter ship is the merchant ship lost in the battle. For a quiet song on an almost sixty year old vinyl album, the audio quality and lack of surface noise is quite good on this song. [Vinyl/Lyrics/35 Images]
