The BBC has backtracked on a letter warning households of possible visits from TV Licence officers on Christmas Day if the £169.50 fee wasn’t paid.
The letter, sent to unlicensed addresses, carried the ominous heading “Will you be in on 25th December?” and warned of enforcement visits, sparking outrage and spoiling festive cheer for many.
