A joined attack against one of the Islamic state group prized possessions: Kurdish forces, supported by US-led coalition airstrikes, are attempting to retake Sinjar. Some 7.500 peshmerga fighters are attacking Sinjar from 3 sites to try to cut off support for the islamist fighters. Around 600 islamist militants are thought to be ready to defend the city.
