The emerging field of disaster medicine is in direct response for the growing need for this type of expertise on a global scale.

Dr. Gregory Ciottone is President of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine, and an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is also an Instructor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and directs the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Fellowship in Disaster Medicine. He also serves as the Director of Medical Preparedness for the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, a joint program of the HSPHS and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Dr. Ciottone has been a consultant to the White House Medical Unit for the past two administrations. He is also probably the world's leading expert in the field of disaster medicine.

His book, "Ciottone's Disaster Medicine", is the most comprehensive resource of its kind. In it, Dr. Ciottone and more than 200 worldwide authorities share their knowledge and expertise on the preparation, assessment, and management of both natural and man-made disasters, including terrorist attacks and the threat of biological warfare.
