Veneers and crowns are both dental restoration methods that can improve the look and function of your teeth. The main difference is that a veneer covers only the front of your tooth and a crown covers the entire tooth.
Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells placed on the surface of the teeth to improve appearance, giving patients a better-looking smile. The procedure used to place veneers is minimally invasive and requires a small amount of enamel be removed for them to fit.
Dental laminates have the same function as veneers and are sometimes the two terms are used interchangeably. Laminates differ in the sense that they are much thinner and require less amount of enamel to be removed for them to be placed.
Usually crowns are recommended for the teeth that are badly broken or cracked, or where root canal treatment has been needed. Unlike veneers that are thin porcelain layers that cover the front of the tooth and the biting edge, a crown is fabricated of thicker porcelain and completely covers the entire tooth right down to the gum line.
The usage of Laminates, Veneers or Crowns depends on the relation between the treatment option and if an aesthetic treatment is required or a functional treatment.
