The button knot is the complicated part of the Soft Shackle
Soft Shackle is becoming very popular in sailing, Off-road and rescue, 4WD or 4x4, hammocks etc
The rope used here is for illustration.
(before you ask. This is a Sterling HTP Static Kernmantle 7/16 or 11mm arborist climbing rope)
The right rope should be Amsteel-Blue® , Plasma®, Dyneema® hollow braid rope or line
About the sticks: It makes a lot easier to learn.
About the chips clips: That's to remind you to don't pass the working end between those loops.
