The Alpinestars SMX-2 Air Carbon Gloves combine protection with flexibility. They've been out before but the 2014 version has been improved. One of the cool features is the Carbon Fiber knuckles which look like something in a syfy movie. Made out of leather and air mesh they are reasonably protective with the padding featured on the palm. The Air Carbon's are really flexible and are nice for warm weather riding throughout urban and rural environments. They also show the advancement in technology in recent years and the necessity of having touchscreen compatible fingers. If you were a fan of the older version, then you will really like these.
