The 6G (6th generation) Technology is expected to integrate aerial, terrestrial, and maritime communications into a network that would be more fast, reliable, and can support a massive number of devices. While 5G (5th generation) is ramping up globally, 6G is the next step in the future.
In Today’s video, we are going to discuss “What is 6G Technology? How It Will Affect Technology?”. The video is going to be amazing so make sure you stick till the end.
6G is the 6th generation standard currently under development for wireless communications technologies. 6th generation networks will be broadband cellular networks, in which the service area is divided into small geographical areas called cells. Various companies (LG, Nokia, Ericsson, Apple, Huawei, Samsung, ), as well as Various countries (South Korea, China, and Japan), have shown interest in 6th generation networks.
While 5G promises download speeds much faster than current 4G LTE networks, 6G will much higher than all these networks, with speeds estimated at 100x faster than 5G. But 6G technology is still just a concept. Currently, there is little information about the standards of 6G. However, it is estimated that the international standardization bodies will sort out the standards for 6G by the year 2030. The work at some of the research centers has shown that 6G will be capable of transmitting a signal at a human computational capability by the year 2035.
“We’ve got a long way to go,” said John Byrne (a telecom analyst at research firm GlobalData). “From a standards perspective, it’s going to be 2030 or almost 2030 before actual products being built on what we would call a 6G standard.”
Dr. Mahyar Shirvanimoghaddam, from the University of Sydney, has claimed that the 6th generation network could deliver fastest speeds of 1 TB per second, enough to download 142 hours of Netflix movies in one second. Speeds that fast could not only enhance the technology expected to emerge from 5G such as autonomous cars and smart cities but may also allow sci-fi applications like the integration of our brains with computers and sensory interfaces that feel and look just like real life.
Remember, each G is just a standard, innovation can still happen inside of that standard. So with 6G, the opportunity for incredibly high data transfer is there, and the groundwork is starting to be laid. Most of the world is yet to experience the benefits of a 5G network, but the geopolitical race for the next big thing in telecommunications technology is already heating up. For companies and governments, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The first to develop and patent 6G will be the biggest winners in what some call the next industrial revolution.
“As countries around the globe progress ambitious 6G research and development initiatives, it is critical that North American industry steps forward to develop a collaborative roadmap to advance its position as a global leader over the next decade,” ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller said in a recent statement.
As most of the smartphone traffic is generated indoors and cellular networks have never really been designed to target indoor coverage efficiently. 6G overcomes these challenges using DASs (Distributed Antenna Systems). 6G will also revolutionize the health-care sector which eliminates time and space barriers through remote surgery and guaranteed health-care workflow optimizations.
6G technology will have a massive impact on the market, devices, and communications and while we are far away from the realities of 6G, it is exciting to think about what’s ahead, and it is great to see many leaders in Big Tech (Apple, Samsung, Nokia) already making progress and getting involved.
