Motovun overall is renowned for truffles, as it is one of the few places where both white and black truffles grow. In 1999, the area hit the spotlight, as the world's largest truffle was found here. Motovun is a medieval town that grew up on the site of an ancient city called Castellieri. It is on a hill 270 metres (886 feet) above sea level with houses scattered all over the hill.
