I did not like playing with the oversized "bar cue ball" on my Apollo 8 Jr coin-op pool table, but I also did not like walking to the other end of the table and sorting through the return bin for my scratched cue.
So I bought the right magnets ($20) from Amazon and put them in the right places and, voila, I can use a standard size/weight magnetic core cue.
Over about 1000 hours of gameplay, I've had two false negatives (cue came out downstream) and one false positive (odd ball in cue return).
Sorry I didn't take photos along the way, because I didn't know it would work and now it's done. If anyone is interested, I could write up the details.
