The River Wensum in Norfolk – on the Wensum, as a rare and precious, chalk stream. The Wensum is under pressure, and in 2005, the entire river upstream from Hellesdon Mill on the western outskirts of Norwich was declared a Special Area of Conservation, or SAC – it is the only river designated as a SAC in the East of England.
Just as background, the river is also from threat from a major road scheme - the Norwich Western link -and this webinar is held by the Stop the Wensum Link campaign.
The webinar is about Wensum itself, and the extremely rare habitat it supports as chalk stream. The speaker, Dr Jonah Tosney, is an aquatic ecologist, with a background in conservation and research. He has previously worked with Wester Ross Fisheries Trust, University of the Highlands and Islands, Yorkshire Water and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. He is Operations Director at Norfolk Rivers Trust, where he has worked for 9 years. At NRT, he delivers river and water conservation projects across Norfolk.
