Katoomba Fire Station is a primary rescue station, this means that we respond to motor vehicle accidents (MVA), rail incidents, industrial/commercial accidents and vertical incidents. For vertical incidents, two of the skill sets required are Safe working at Heights and Vertical Rescue skills. Today we are demonstrating how to set up a rope based system to access, assess and extricate a casualty who has fallen over an edge.
