Are you new to lead guitar but yet want to play a solo? If so, you may think that you have to spend hours & hours a day trying to learn endless patterns of scales and arpeggios to achieve this. While that work does help (and, most of the pros do have all that stuff down), mastering all of that is not the only path to soloing.
If you are able to commit to a consistent (but short) effort at learning a few basic Pentatonic shapes you will be amazed at how much better your lead playing will start to sound in a relatively short period of time. This happens because when simple Pentatonic shapes get combined with focused attention to what notes are hit, a strong melodic and harmonic connection is formed.
In this lesson, we will study small Major & Minor Pentatonic shapes that focus on two areas of study – 1note geometry and 2neck coverage. As you will see and hear, these small shapes are highly effective at building solos in literally seconds. As a matter of fact, I would probably say that longer scales - for a player who is new to soloing – can be less effective to form a good solo quickly.
The main factor to getting all of this working is that these small Pentatonic patterns must be short enough to allow players to hit good notes consistently without having to fight to locate notes from bigger more involved scale patterns.
