California lawmakers in the State Senate Judiciary Committee approved a measure on Tuesday that would allow local prosecutors and the state attorney general to penalize social media companies for using algorithms that could addict children and influence them to harm themselves or others. The committee voted 8-0 to move forward with the measure, Senate Bill 287, which still faces several steps before it can become law. The bill targets social media companies that could lead children to die by suicide or develop eating disorders. It also prohibits the companies from marketing fentanyl and ghost guns and would penalize companies such as Meta, Tiktok and Twitter up to $250,000 per violation. More here: [ Ссылка ]
