The Scottish Government is “absolutely determined” that exams will take place this year, Scotland’s education secretary has said.
It comes after two years of cancelled examinations due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Opposition parties at Holyrood have called for a guarantee that they will take place in 2022.
But, Shirley-Anne Somerville explained that the situation will only change if there is a change in public health guidance.
“Unfortunately, the virus doesn’t allow for us to give many cast-iron guarantees on education or elsewhere,” the education secretary told STV News.
“What we can reassure staff and pupils on is that we are absolutely determined that exams will take place.
“The only reason that we would change is if there was a change in the public health guidance.”
