STORYLINE
Israeli airstrikes continued to hit several locations in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, including Gaza City, Khan Younis and Rafah.
In Gaza City, a mosque purportedly run by Hamas was hit and almost completely destroyed.
It is not known whether the mosque itself was the intended target of the airstrike.
Khan Younis was hit by at least two airstrikes, Palestinian sources said.
Several people were injured and brought to hospital for treatment in one of the airstrikes, but no one was killed.
It was not immediately clear how many people were injured.
In the hospital's morgue, relatives mourned the deaths of 2 Palestinians, who were said to have been killed in a separate airstrike east of Khan Younis, close to the border with Israel.
Further details surrounding their deaths were not immediately available.
Earlier in Khan Younis, a building was destroyed by an airstrike, which sources said was the home of a senior Islamic Jihad leader.
AP Television cannot independently verify the claim.
No casualties were reported in that strike, which left a large crater in the ground and reduced the building to a pile of rubble.
In Rafah, fire engines and ambulances rushed to the scene of a further airstrike. No casualties were reported.
The airstrikes came as Israel rejected mounting international pressure to suspend its devastating air offensive against Palestinian militants whose rocket barrages were striking ominously close to the Israeli heartland.
