Elana Scherr gives us a first look at the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS, a new all-electric luxury sedan that spearheads an upcoming line of Mercedes EV offerings. When the redesigned 2021 S-Class was released, an electric variant was conspicuously missing. Unknown to us, Mercedes was saving that surprise for a new sedan built to rival the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. Enter the Mercedes EQS.
A sleek roofline gives the EQS that coupe-like look that has come to define the styling of Mercedes' other luxury vehicles, including the CLA-Class and CLS-Class sedans. Stepping inside, the new 56-inch display, called the Hyperscreen, is sure to impress tech and car enthusiasts alike. Spanning across the entire dashboard, the single panel display is unlike any other infotainment display on the market today. It incorporates a digital instrument cluster, plus OLED touchscreens in the center stack and in front of the passenger.
With the 2022 EQS, Mercedes appears to be answering the question, "What's the best luxury electric car?" With Mercedes' signature styling, impressive technology and S-Class accommodations in a nimble, easy-to-drive package, this luxury sedan might be the correct answer. We'll of course find that out after a full evaluation, but for the time being enjoy Edmunds' first look at the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS.
