Paola Alvarez, Migration and Development Project Officer in the International Organization for Migration (IOM), addresses the issue of mainstreaming migration within development planning and the necessity to both understand the effects of migration on established policy objective, such as education, health and social protection policies, or trade and economic policies; and the effects of policy objectives on migration itself, that is to say, on the reasons for migrating, on the nature of mobility and its consequences at individual and collective level.
